CEDIE - Cat, 14" x 18" - Acrylic

Cedie's pretty colored coat showed up perfectly against this night background. Cedie is 15 years old and her owner, Maryann, just adores her. Maryann's partner ordered this commission as a birthday present for her and she was absolutely thrilled.

SASHA - Cat, 14" x 18" Acrylic

Melinda, wanted a simple "Classic Masters" background for her beloved cat, Sasha. Hundreds and probably thousand's of micro strokes created Sasha's fur, creating form and texture with multi-colored layering. Classy realism!

NEVILLE "My Furry Prince" - Dog, 20" x 20"

The Flagship painting of my business, this is my own dog, Neville. The title of the work comes from a story where a former roommate caught me secretly serenading my pet pooch as he layed sprawled in the hallway. The improvisational ditty, sung with the dramatic fervour of 1940's MGM Classic Musical consisted of the lyrics...you guessed it "My Prince, my Furry Furry Prince," and so a pet painting business was born.

The bright colors and fantasy element of the background gives this a fun and comical style, suitable for kids work and those with a good sense of humor. It also illustrates how wording can be incoporated as a painted element.

SPOT - Cat, 14" x 18" Acrylic

Spot made a delightful subject and the angular shot made for an interesting composition. Her owner, Summer, gave me an image of a floral patterned fabric which I did a loose interpretation for the background, giving it a sweet and feminine touch to contrast with Spot's dynamic black and white coat. Pretty!

OLLIE - Dog, 18" x 18" Acrylic

Ollie's textured fur made this a really fun protrait to paint. Layers and layers of colored strokes create that classic wire-fur look and his wonderfully frank and expressive look gave this "Headshot" tons of personality.

The fun skull and crossbone collar tag was added from another source photo. The lovely wash background created with shades of greens, blues, purple and peach elements gave him a swirling halo of light. The details of his eyes were obliterated by camera "red eye" but I was able to correct that, no problems. SUPER CUTE!

JASPER - Cat, 16" x 16" Acrylic

Jasper, described as a "wise little pleasure seeker, was captured in all his Halloween glory, a favorite celebration of his owner Derek.

The terrific checkered backgound of his tiled kitchen floor added oodles of interest to the picture and highlighted Japsers gorgeous and radiant eyes.

A dynamic background choice and interesting angle made this a great source photo to work from.

Humor and flare characterize this painting with subtle uses of mauve, browns and blues to bring interest to Jasper's naturally grey fur.

ROMEO AND BENTLEY - Dogs, 4" x6"

Romeo and Bentley are pugs owned by twin sisters, Jacqui and Kerry Donneli. A friend commissioned these 4" x 6" paintings for their 40th Birthday to capture their treasured but aging pets.

The source photos were sneakily copied from the twins myspace pages without their awareness. Because of this the quality wasn't great but lent itself to a loose, fun, painterly style with subtle color inflections of blues, pinks and purples into the fur color.

The personality is all there though and needless to say the twins LOVED them!
